London Dancesport Team

What does the team do?

The London Dancesport Team competes against other university teams at competitions up and down the country. All levels of dancers are welcome to join the team, and the competitions cater for beginners through to advanced dancers. If you are a complete beginner and want to know more about the competitions, please contact the Beginners Captain, or see the Beginners page for more details.

University dancesport competitions consist of different events, and usually follow a standard format. individual ballroom events are held in the morning, beginners through to advanced, with the individual latin events in the afternoon. The evening is reserved for the Team Match, where 16 couples from each team are selected to compete in either Waltz, Quickstep, Cha Cha and Jive. Further information can be found on the Competitions page.

There is also an 'Offbeat' dance event, where teams showcase a dance that is neither ballroom nor latin. This is a chance for the team to try some different dance styles and have some fun. For more information on this please contact our Offbeat Captain.

Can I compete?

If you are a university student in London you can join our team. All you need to do is join our society and get yourself a ULU card (these are usually free). For more information on joining the society please see the Membership page. If you have any queries about joining the team or competing, please contact our Team Captain.

Do I need a partner?

You don't need a partner to join us, although if you already have one that is fine! As there are often more girls than guys we do sometimes partner girls together, and have had some very successful all-girl couples!

For more information on joining the team, please email our Team Captain.
